Liberian Mandingo Association of Pennsylvania (LIMAP)

Strategic Program Areas

Liberian Mandingo Association of Pennsylvania (LIMAP) programmatic architecture is designed as a multidimensional, community-centered impact framework aligned with the unique cultural dynamics, socio-economic vulnerabilities, and latent strengths of the Liberian Mandingo diaspora in Pennsylvania.

Each program is structured around an identified market failure or service gap, integrated with evidence-based interventions, and aligned with public and philanthropic funding streams.

Strategic Response:

  • Leadership, college readiness, and digital literacy programs rooted in cultural affirmation.
  • Summer academies and after-school mentoring that combine traditional arts with STEM and civic education.
  • Inclusive pathways for youth with disabilities and gender-specific empowerment models (e.g., Boys of Hope, Girls’ Empowerment).

2. Women’s Economic Participation & Leadership Advancement

Rationale: Mandingo women are the cultural backbone of the diaspora, yet face entrenched barriers to formal employment, leadership, and healthcare access.

Strategic Response:

  • Microenterprise incubators offering financial literacy, group lending models, and digital upskilling.
  • Maternal wellness and reproductive education embedded in peer-led mother circles.
  • Youth-to-mentor pipeline through the Girls’ Identity Leadership Program (GEILP).

Impact Objective: Transition 40% of participating women from informal labor to legally registered micro-enterprises within 3 years.

3. Health Equity & Mental Wellness

Rationale: Preventive care, maternal health access, and mental health services are chronically underutilized due to cultural stigma and system mistrust.

Strategic Response:

  • Community Health Fairs co-hosted with trusted partners (e.g., AFAHO, DBHIDS).
  • Peer navigator model for trauma counseling and maternal health.
  • Integration of Islamic and storytelling-based healing methods to reduce mental health stigma.

  • Strategic partnerships with PCA, AAMP, and UNESCO-aligned bodies.

Impact Objective: Establish Liberian Mandingo Association of Pennsylvania (LIMAP) as a regional cultural preservation hub with 5,000+ annual cultural program participants.

Strategic Response:

  • Multilingual workshops and legal clinics in partnership with HIAS PA and Temple Law.
  • Peer-led legal navigator program for document prep and translation.
  • ESL and civic orientation integrated into everyday life activities (e.g., markets, mosques).
